NEW Junior Division of the Machine Quilters Showcase

In the past we have had the junior quilters enter their quilts in the existing categories and they were judged along with all quilts in that category first. Then they were judged as junior entries competing with other quilts entered by junior quilters.

For 2010 we will have a Junior Division just for our junior quilters. There will be two separate divisions for the Junior Quilters. A Computer Guided Division sponsored by the Statler Sisters Forum and a Hand Guided Division sponsored by Country Lane Quilting. Within the Computer Guided Division the entries will be grouped by ages: 12-17 years of age and 11 and under. Ribbons and prize money will be awarded in both divisions.

If you plan to take advantage of attending classes at MQS you must mail a copy of your quilt entry form along with your class registration form. Also send a copy of the class confirmation of the adult who will be attending classes with you.

Send your forms to:

 Here are the rules:

1. The junior quilter must be 17 years of age or younger.
2. The top can be pieced by the junior quilter or by someone else. We encourage the junior quilter to participate in all steps in creating their entry.
3. The quilting must be done by the junior quilter and may be hand guided or computer guided, using a machine on a track system. This can be a longarm, shortarm or domestic machine but must be on a track system.
4. The quilting can be done by following a pattern from the back of the machine, a pattern marked on the quilt top or freehand from the front of the machine. The quilter may also use template rulers, pattern boards, or computer guided technology.
5. The binding can be done by someone else but we encourage the junior quilter to participate in all aspects of creating the entry.
6. The entry can be any size from lap quilt to bed quilt not to exceed a 480" perimeter.
7. The entry must consist of a top, batting and backing. A false back will disqualify the entry. The use of any thread type and the use of embellishments is acceptable.
8. A 4" hanging sleeve must be firmly attached to the back of the entry no less than 90" from the bottom edge.
9. If the entry has a label it must be covered by pinning dark fabric over the label.

A bonus for participating in the Junior Division of MQS is that the junior quilter will be allowed to take one FREE lecture or demo class at MQS if accompanied by an adult paying full price for the same class. In addition the junior quilter will be allowed to take up to three additional lecture or demo classes at half price if accompanied by an adult paying full price for the same classes. Hands on classes are not included in this bonus offer. Contact mqs-show@imqa.org for details.

We welcome the Next Generation of machine quilters!
